Professor Phillips Honored

UA Distinguished Professor Del Phillips received the 2010 award for Excellence in International Education. The Excellence Award is intended for individuals who have produced a substantial impact in the area of international education and service. The recipient is an individual who has provided outstanding service internationally with significant economic, social or cultural benefits and demonstrated significant bridge building between cultures. Professor Phillips received the award as an individual who has greatly facilitated understanding between cultures through international activity in a highly significant way.

Professor Phillips has facilitated international experience for over 4,000 participants over a period of 39 years without a single program cancellation. Participants in his Russia programs represent over 110 colleges and universities from all over the Western world. We feel that this makes the Arizona-in-Russia programs the most successful and widely enrolled of any Russia abroad programs sponsored by a single university.

Students go to Russia on Phillips' programs not only to study the Russian language and culture. The Arizona-in-Moscow Internship program has given over 300 students the possibility to improve their resumes and further their chances for success on the job market. Currently, Phillips also sends students to the Moscow Humanities University specifically to prepare for the Russian Federation State Proficiency Exams which grant the successful examinee the right to study and work in the Russian Federation along with other Russian citizens. 90 % of our Fall 2010 participants successfully passed these Tests of Russian as a Foreign Language.
