UA RUSSIAN ABROAD COURSE
SELECTION LANGUAGE PROGRAM

Course selection is made through consultation with the program director who will interview each student after arrival in Russia. Summer Session students receive 6 units per program. Semester program participants receive 15 units of UA semester credit.

LOWER DIVISION

"A" courses are offered fall semester; "b" courses are offered spring semester.

Russian 102a,b Grammar I
5 credits each (75 academic hours per course).
Prerequisite: Beginning level or one semester of college Russian.
Survey of basic grammatical concepts.

Russian 104a,b Convesation I
5 credits each (75 academic hours per course).
Prerequisites: Beginning level or one semester of college Russian.
Talking about the self, family, environment. Basic survival situations.

Russian 106a,b Phonetics I
2 credits each (30 academic hours of instruction).
Prerequisites: Beginning level or one semester of college Russian.
Basic pronunciation problems characteristic to native speakers of English. Introduction to Russian intonation patterns.

Russian 199 Independent Study
1-4 credits each.
Prerequisites: Permission of academic director.

Russian 202 a,b Grammar II
5 credits each (75 academic hours).
Intermediate grammatical concepts.
Prerequisite: 1 year of college Russian or equivalent.

Russian 204 a,b Conversation II
5 credits each (75 academic hours).
Conversational topics dealing with self and family. Survival situations.
Prerequisite: 1 year of college Russian or equivalent.

Russian 206 a,b Phonetics II
2 credits each (30 academic hours).
Survey of pronunciation problems and intonation constructions.
Prerequisite: 1 year of college Russian or equivalent.

Russian 309 a,b Reading Russian Newspapers
2 credits each (30 academic hours).
Survey of Russian newspapers, journalistic vocabulary building, regarding various articles.
Prerequisite: 2 years of college Russian or equivalent.

Russian 316 a,b Russian Phonetics/Intonation III
1 credit each (15 academic hours).
Reducing the English accent in reproduction of the Russian sound/intonational systems.
Prerequisite: 2 years of college Russian or equivalent.

1-4 credits each.

Russian 402 a,b Grammar III
5 credits each (75 academic hours).
Practical training in special Russian grammatical topics that cause the most difficulty for native speakers of English; emphasis upon improving grammatical accuracy through communication. Prerequisite: 2 years of college Russian or equivalent.

Russian 406 a,b Literature
2 credits each (30 academic hours).
Russian poetry, short selected from 18th-20th century writers.
Prerequisite: 2 years of college Russian or equivalent.

Russian 408 a,b Composition
2 credits each (30 academic hours).
Writing about the self, family, environment, societal problems.
Prerequisite: 2 years of college Russian or equivalent.

Russian 410 a,b Conversation III
3 credits each (45 academic hours). Survival situations, discussion of societal problems and everyday life.
Prerequisite: 2 years of college Russian or equivalent. Intermediate level proficiency.

Russian 412 a,b Treasures of Russian Culture
3 credits each.
Independent project based upon museums of Moscow and St.Petersburg; projects written and/or presented in Russian.
